In a world saturated with stimuli, the work of Catalan sculptor and painter Jaume Roig invites us to pause, to silence, and to contemplate. His deeply spiritual and minimalist work resides in that space where art is not only observed, but also breathed and felt. With over three decades of experience, Roig has created a coherent, sensitive artistic universe deeply connected to nature and emptiness.
In this article, we explore his biography, his artistic vision, and the legacy of a creator who has made emptiness a form of presence.
Biography and artistic training
Jaume Roig was born in Terrassa (Barcelona) in 1961. Since his early days, he has moved between sculpture, painting, and installation, developing work with a strong symbolic and spiritual charge. He studied at the Terrassa School of Arts and Crafts and subsequently trained in various sculptural and painting techniques, although his artistic development has been primarily self-taught and experimental.
His language has been refined over the years to achieve a recognizable and austere style, close to arte povera, Zen minimalism and certain Eastern spiritual traditions.

Inspired by Eastern thought, Arte Povera, and medieval mysticism, Roig constructs simple, refined forms, where emptiness is not absence, but presence. His sober style is reminiscent of Chillida or certain Zen gardens, and he always seeks to generate an inner emotion rather than a rational interpretation.
With exhibitions in venues such as the Terrassa Cultural Centre and the Trama Gallery, his work has been shown in environments that reinforce this dialogue with space and silence. As he himself states:
“Art must be silent. Silence is not emptiness, it is form.”
In times of noise, his work invites us to stop and look within.
A radically simple proposal… and deeply necessary.
